Departmental Activities

The Department of CS&IT proudly inaugurated 5 new student clubs on 6th March 2024. The new clubs Data Insight, Ledger League, Gameverse, AI Alliance, and Qubits Qrew will hopefully prove a valuable addition to the existing students clubs.

TechFest 23 took place from 30 November 2023 to 20 December 2023 and featured programming competitions workshops, seminars, hands-on training sessions, and awareness programs covering a spectrum of topics, including cybersecurity, programming, data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and gaming.

A Seminar on Cybersecurity and IT Applications was conducted by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mubashir Khan, following a visit of NED University of Engineering and Technology by 38th Mid Career Management Course attendees along with DG National Institute of Management (NIM).

The evaluation of the final year design project took place on August 16th, 2023, within the premises of the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT). Esteemed industry professionals were cordially invited to serve as evaluators for the assessment process.

The senior faculty members of the Department of CS&IT visited Ida Rieu College For Blind & Deaf on 5th June 2023. The purpose of the visit was to investigate the possibilities of admission of students in BS(Computer Science) programme at NED University.

The students and senior faculty members of the Department of CS&IT attended EduDay with great enthusiasm and vigor. EduDay was organized on 2nd June 2023 by Microsoft and Higher Education Commission (HEC) in partnership with MLSA Karachi.
Edu Day serves as an extraordinary platform that unites education leaders, industry experts, and technology enthusiasts from diverse domains. It fosters a vibrant exchange of ideas, propelling education into the future.

Dr. Muhammad Mubashir Khan, Dr. Tahir Malik, Dr. Muhammad Kamran attended "Quantum Cryptographic Insights" workshop at National Science and Technology Park, Islamabad from 9th to 10th May 2023

The state-of-the-art Computer Lab with a capacity of 50 students, gifted by OctDaily Pvt. Ltd., was inaugurated by the CEO OctDaily Ms. Saira Ahmed and the Honourable Vice Chancellor NEDUET Dr. Sarosh Hasmat Lodhi with Prof. Dr. Saleem Raza Samo, Vice Chancellor QUEST on 26th January 2023. Dr. Lodhi highly appreciated this extra-ordinary initiative of OctDaily Pvt. Ltd. towards strengthening the industry academia collaboration that is expected to continuously grow in the future.
The Dean ISH Prof. Dr. Noman Ahmed, Chairman CS&IT Dept. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mubashir Khan, Executive Officer CSRD Prof. Dr. Najeed Ahmed Khan, Chairperson SE Dept. Prof. Dr. Shehnila Zardari, Chairman Mathematics Dept. Prof. Dr. Mirza Mehmood Baig, and the faculty members of CS&IT department were also present at the event.
This Computer Lab is going to play a vital role in the training and enhancement of technical skills of the undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as benefit faculty members and researchers of the department.

The 3rd edition of International Conference on Innovations in Computer Science and Software Engineering (ICONICS 2022) was held on 14-15 December 2022.
The conference was chaired by Dr. Muhammad Mubashir Khan. TrendMicro was the Platinum sponsor and Telec the Bronze sponsor. OctDaily and MazikGlobal were the other sponsors .
The conference was also supported by HEC Sindh and Pakistan, and IEEE Karachi Section.
During this two days’ conference, excellent thought-provoking talks about the latest research trends in Artificial Intelligence, Machine & Deep learning, Data Science, Cyber and Information Security, Cloud Computing, Quantum Computing and Internet of Things were delivered. Researchers presented 29 different papers to enlighten more than 500 of our young participants from different universities all over Karachi and professionals from all over the country and even abroad. Along with the technical sessions Koderz Kombat, a coding competition, a hackathon and a poster exhibition were also the part of the conference activities that provided an opportunity for the students to stand out and demonstrate their skills.

ITEC'22 was jointly organized by the Departments of Software Engineering and Computer Science & Information Technology of NED University of Engi- neering and Technology on July 19-20, 2022.  Prof. Dr. Sarosh H. Lodi (Vice Chancellor, NED University) was the Chief Guest and Mr. Ashraf Kapadia (Managing Director of Systems Limited) was the Guest of Honor. The event was sponsored by companies namely Shispare, SIBISOFT, 10Pearls, Gaditek, Folio3, Geeks of Kolachi, Disrupt Labs,Techwards and others. Students from various universities participated in the event. Competitions included Speed programming, Data Science, Code in the Dark, FIFA, Chess, Hackathon, and UI/UX competition.

Hackathon - 2022  organized on 22 March 2022 at the Department of Computer Science and IT. The winners are:

• First Prize: Team Interninators - Ali Rafay Bhojani, Aaqib Nazeer (TCIT).
• Second Prize: Call Back Crew - Ahab Ali Khan, Muhammad Jazib Nasir.
• Runner Up: Abbas Ibtesam - Abbas Shabbir, Ibtisam Shakil Ansari.
