An insightful session on Quantum Technology was held at NEDUET, led by the Chairman of the Department of Computer Science (BSCS), Dr. Muhammad Mubashir Khan. The session featured contributions from Dr. Kamran and Dr. Tahir, who are actively researching Quantum Technology. They discussed secure communication, key distribution, and the connection between quantum technology and cybersecurity. Dr. Kamran focused on quantum security and types of quantum computers, while Dr. Tahir provided an overview of secure communication.
Dr. Mubashir Khan began the session by introducing classical bits, which led to qubits (quantum bits). He explained how qubits are represented by ket zero |0⟩ =(1,0) and ket one |1⟩ =(0,1) ψ⟩=α∣0⟩+β∣1⟩
Here α and β represent the probabilities of the qubit being in the |0⟩ or |1⟩ state, respectively. This superposition concept was illustrated with various examples, including photons, electron states, and spin properties.
Towards the end, Dr. Mubashir presented a graph demonstrating how the values of α and β affect the state ∣ψ⟩ He explained that if 𝛼=0 the state moves towards 𝛽 and vice versa. This illustrates how the qubit's state depends on these probabilities.
Dr. Mubashir left the audience with a thought-provoking question about the imaginary nature of α and β hinting at the uncertainty inherent in quantum states. He also provided a resource for further learning: Learning.quantum.ibm.com.

Ignite, in collaboration with the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, organized a 5-day hands-on training workshop for the upcoming Cybersecurity Hackathon 2023 at Ashraf Habibullah AV Hall at NED University. Participants from all over Karachi joined the workshop and learned about Capture the Flag Challenges (CTF), Security Fundamentals, Penetration Testing Methodologies, Cryptography, Web Application and Network Security, Social Engineering, Wireless Security, Mobile Device Security, Cloud Security, Incident Response Planning, and Binary Exploitation, among other topics.
Students from the CS&IT Department batches of 2020, 2022, and 2023 participated in the event and were able to secure their positions among the top ten participants.

Customer Churn Prediction: A Success Story: One of the highlights of the session was an insightful activity conducted by Ms. Maqbool, where she walked participants through the step-by-step process of developing a customer churn prediction model. This hands-on exercise enabled participants to gain practical knowledge and experience the intricate aspects of data preprocessing, feature engineering, model selection, and evaluation. Ms. Maqbool emphasized the importance of leveraging a combination of customer-related features, transactional data, and behavioral patterns to build an accurate churn prediction model.
